A sentence generally used to paraphrase, “I’m too lazy to explain this to you.” There’s even a website designed to send you in this direction if someone is too lazy to tell you to google something. (lmgtfy.com) Whether someone has directed you to Google or you’re there by your own doing, you likely will be using this search engine on a daily basis.
Though its the possibly the easiest thing to do (type word/s of interest, receive links to answers), there is such a thing as mastering the art of googling. Let me teach you how.
1. Google knows everything.
First rule is don’t underestimate google, so gives these quick searches a go.
Look up the weather by typing “[insert city] forecast”.
Use it as a currency converter by, for example, searching 5,000 GBP to USD”.
2. Google is your brain, improved
You may not have insane math skills, or killer memory, but here’s how you can fake it.
Get quick flight updates by typing “flight [insert flight number + airline]” – it will give you estimated arrival, how far along its trip it is, where it took off from and where it’s landing in terms of city and terminal.
Use it as a calculator by typing in the formula you need solved. Take this further and calculate your tip, just type in “tip calculator” and a handy fill in form will pop up.
3. Google, simplified
Get specific time-based searches by clicking ‘search tools’ in the menu bar below the search bar. A new menu bar will come up below, giving you the option to change an “any time” search result to anything from past months, days, hours and even minutes by customizing the range.
4. Google follows orders
Maybe this won’t be a life changing addition to your search hacks, but it should get a good giggle out of you when you’re so close, but still so far, from 5pm.
Type in “do a barrel roll”. Watch magic happen.
Type in “tilt”. This might annoy those with self proclaimed OCD.
If you’re a fan of retro video games, search “atari breakout” in images. Watch your screen transform into a classic 80s themed console – your welcome.
